Our core service is project management. We organized BuildCommunity around the idea of being a “Design/Build” consultant. “Design/Build” is a project delivery system used by real estate developers. In this system the design and implementation is done by a single contractor. We apply this concept to social justice initiatives. We partner with foundations and community-based organizations to bring analysis, design, and expert project management to local and regional initiatives.

Design and Analysis
We work with community leaders to understand their issues and their local political and community dynamics. We employ a facilitative process to develop robust action plans and policy recommendations.

Implementation
We then provide expert project management to organize and launch these local and regional initiatives. We provide the management infrastructure to help initiatives succeed. We understand how to support immigrant and rural communities to realize their aspirations.

Capacity Building
We ensure sustainability by building the capacity of community leaders to lead effective cross-sector and cross-cultural collaboratives. We develop community leaders through coaching and technical assistance. Our project management style is to work beside or in support of local leaders and to help them build the relationships and team to support their work.

Evaluation and Learning
We are a learning organization and a convenor of ideas and experts. We use formal and informal learning circles to reflect and learn from our projects and to share that learning widely.
